BBC Four is the cultural and arts TV channel of the BBC, launched on 2 March 2002. An HD feed was launched on 10 December 2013. Similar channels in Europe include Arte in France and Germany, 3sat in German-speaking countries and Rai 5 in Italy.

Designer:  Unknown
Typography:  Gill Sans
Launched:  2 March 2002

This was the only logo of the BBC’s three main channels that still used the Gill Sans font for its channel logo. Until the October 2021 rebrand of the BBC (when all channels introduced the Reith font), BBC One used a custom font and BBC Two used Avenir, while BBC Three also used Gill Sans, but as an on-screen bug: it used Helvetica Condensed and then Kerater.

A new set of idents were introduced on 10 September 2005, which were used for 16 years. BBC Four therefore had the longest-lived logo and idents of any BBC channel until the BBC-wide rebrand in October 2021.

Designer:  Unknown
Typography:  BBC Reith Sans
Launched:  20 October 2021

As part of the BBC’s broadcaster-wide rebrand on 20 October 2021, BBC Four introduced a new logo for the first time since its launch in 2002, as well as a new set of idents for the first time since 2005 but still sticking to its previous design layout from 2005. Like the other BBC channels, the new logo uses the proprietary BBC Reith typeface.
